While most window envelopes have the opening on the long side, open end envelopes traditionally reverse that orientation and place that opening on the short side. The primary advantage, especially with larger window envelopes, is that you can print documents that emerge from the envelope in the correct orientation. If you're concerned with presentation, this can make a great first impression when people open your envelope.

With open end window envelopes, you can avoid folding important documents.
If you're sending important documents, legal forms, or contracts—especially if they need to be signed or stamped by a notary—it's much easier for the recipient to read the documents and sign them if they haven't been folded. With open end window envelopes, you can still print documents that show the recipient's address clearly through the window without any folding. You simply open the short end, slide in the unfolded documents, and align the name and address. You won't even need printer templates, because the windows are placed in standard positions.
