Sources and methodology

Energy consumption is calculated based on the power of the appliances added, as estimated by the Buildings Energy Data Book produced by the US Department of Energy. Comparisons to other homes and offices are calculated using the data from Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey and Residential Energy Consumption Survey. Recommendations are based on electricity saving guidelines as detailed in US Department of Energy Electricity Saving page.
